Come join us!! Be part of the efforts to preserve the history of California’s Central Valley.
It was a building in jeopardy ---- a building facing the wrecking ball----that brought about the formation of the Historical Society’s Preservation Committee well over 30 years ago. It was a beginning not unlike that of a great many preservation groups across the country.
Today, the Committee involves itself in similar issues, participating in the growing debate that surrounds development and preservation in the Valley. Education has become a priority. And, in very modest ways the Committee has been working at a few very basic goals:
- Looking for ways to help create an atmosphere where people can come together to discuss their differences regarding preservation and work through them
- Looking for ways to draw attention to our architectural resources as well as our historic landscapes as important pieces of the Valley story, and make the case for their preservation
- Setting an example by getting directly involved in saving and restoring important resourcesProviding information regarding preservation projects, practices and strategies.

Fresno State Normal School, c. 1920. The two-story brick
structure was subsequently home to the Fresno State
Teacher’s College, Fresno State College, and finally
California’s first junior college campus, Fresno
City College. Currently the historic building is
undergoing
a major restoration project that will reintegrate this
significant piece of California educational history
back into campus life. |
We invite you to join the Committee . . . join the cause. The Committee is involved in very important, interesting work ----- work that has the potential to make a difference. Contact the Fresno Historical Society for more information (559.441.0862).
